AeroFarms is the commercial leader in vertical controlled environment agriculture and is seeking a Buyer reporting to the Purchasing Manager with exceptional interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail with great motivation and drive.  The candidate has a superior work experience and a proven record of success.

AeroFarms is building a brand new state-of-the-art facility in Newark, NJ that will be the world’s largest indoor vertical farm for leafy greens and herbs and will serve the NY Metro area.  To support substantial interest from national retailers, AeroFarms plans a significant scaling of the business, including facilities in additional cities in the near-term.  In addition to North America, the company also has farms under development in other regions of the world.

Role

You will report to the Purchasing Manager and will assist in the administration of the company’s purchasing efforts.  The position will require excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The position will experience significant exposure to various aspects of the company’s business and to senior management through projects and assignments.  Main activities to include:

Daily Tasks:

  • Request quotes, negotiate prices and process Purchase Orders based on requisitions received
  • Vendor confirmation
  • Accurate expected delivery date updates
  • Collaboration with Accounts Payable to ensure payment. Resolve receiving discrepancies, invoices and supplier returns in a timely and complete manner
  • Maintain PO system data to effectively generate suggested POs
  • Maintain necessary required vendor documents (electronic and physical) such as W-9’s, indemnities, tax exemption forms etc.
  • Provide timely and appropriate material availability information to internal customers
  • Work closely with internal customers to communicate, follow up and help with issues related to purchased goods and services
  • Negotiate Pricing Programs as directed by the Purchasing Manager
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships to not only support PO fulfillment, but also negotiate volume discounts and price breaks wherever possible

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months Purchasing Experience

Knowledge

  • Logical negotiation thought process. Strong understanding of managing cost, customers and supplier relationships

Senior Corporate Development Analyst

Role

You will report to the VP of Corporate Development and will be responsible for maintaining the Corporate Development team’s financial models, conducting market research, business and financial analysis of new market opportunities and detailed reporting on the company’s current active projects. You will support AeroFarms’ entry into new markets. The position will require excellent communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a strong command of financial modeling, and financial and accounting principles.

The Analyst will experience significant exposure to various aspects of the company’s business and to senior management through projects and assignments and is expected to transition to another role within the company.

Main activities to include:

  • Financial Modeling: Develop and refine financial models, including cash flow models and financial statements
  • Market Development: Support the development team in market research and analysis that informs project selection; assimilate information and build business cases for market development

Qualifications:

Production and Logistics Planner

The position will be responsible for planning & scheduling all growing, harvesting, packing and shipping operations. The Production & Logistics Planner will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our customers receive high quality products in a timely and efficient manner. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of prior planning & logistics experience in a regulated manufacturing industry overseeing high mix/high volume operations.

The Role:

The position will report directly to the COO and will work closely with all functions within Farm Operations as well as Marketing, R&D, and external logistics providers. The position requires an individual who is highly motivated with exceptional analytical, planning and communications skills and the desire to be part of a company that is changing the face of agriculture throughout the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Master Scheduling – Develop, implement and control a Master Schedule taking into account demand, capacity, and material availability constraints.
  • Inventory Management – Insure ongoing, reliable availability of all materials required for growing, harvesting, packing and shipping.
  • Operations Scheduling – Prepare and manage detailed schedules to effectively match daily/weekly production and shipping operations to demand requirements.

Maintenance Manager

Role

This position is responsible for facilitating and overseeing installation, repairs and upkeep of the company’s` property including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems, structures, buildings and production equipment.  In addition, the candidate must be able to manage maintenance administration/budget, evaluate and analyze efficiencies, equipment downtime, and ensure optimal progressive maintenance support for the entire plant facility while working to improve plant performance, in accordance with company goals and objectives. This role will report directly to the Farm Manager and will coach and lead a small maintenance team. He/She will have responsibility for ensuring the servicing and maintaining of all manufacturing equipment as well as for planning and scheduling of the maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Prioritizing, scheduling repairs and installations of equipment and facilities, minimizing interference with production.
  • Coordinating outside vendors and sub-contractors
  • Project Management responsibilities
  • Maintain spare parts and inventory system for all critical machine parts, including ordering parts as necessary for inventory and special projects.
  • Maintaining machine operating standards, including the review and documentation of downtime trends against standards.
  • Administering the maintenance work order system, including prioritizing and assigning work orders, and monitoring their timely completion.
  • Developing and managing the plant’s preventive maintenance plan, ensuring the least interference with production operations and ensuring the completion and maintenance of all records regarding plant maintenance and work orders completed.
  • Managing training needs for maintenance staff, including coordinating training with outside vendors and other educational seminars as necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory environmental programs for testing and disposal requirements.
  • Development and adherence to maintenance budget.
  • Assisting in process troubleshooting as needed, including being subject matter expert.
  • Assisting in the initiating and implementation of capital projects and related budgets.
  • Identify and recommend capital improvement projects to support plant infrastructure.
  • Proactively manage all infrastructures including developing a long-term plan for maintenance and upgrades as needed.

Qualifications:

The hard working, self-motivated candidate will possess:

  • Associate Degree in building trades, mechanical, electrical, ammonia refrigeration, welding or/and related field of study, or some college coursework and five to ten years of job-related experience.
  • Experience with PLC’s
  • Preferred: A Bachelor Degree in a related field of study
  • 5-7 years maintenance experience within Manufacturing or Food Industries; 3+ years at a supervisory level.

Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance

Job Description:

The ideal candidate has 10-15 years of experience in regulatory compliance for food safety and quality assurance and is comfortable providing leadership to distributed teams of FSQA professionals. Experience in the perishable products (growing, packaging and shipping) industry is a plus.  You will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and will have a close working relationship with the Director of Research & Development.

The position requires an individual who is very adept at focusing both externally (e.g. how is the regulatory market evolving) as well as internally (e.g. driving the company to meet evolving expectations in a comprehensive & efficient manner) to ensure full compliance with requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive all Strategic and Operational aspects of Food Safety, Quality Management, and Regulatory Affairs for the company.
    • Continuously monitor the regulatory environment (e.g. USDA, FDA, FSMA, etc.) and third party certification requirements (e.g., GFSI) to identify existing or potential gaps, and spearhead the identification and implementation of corrective actions.
    • Lead the Food Safety Committee activities and directives.
    • Direct the execution of studies and make recommendations for product shelf life.
    • Develop Quality Plan and Quality Control Points.
    • Develop and implement Environmental Monitoring Programs for human pathogens.
  • Champion the establishment and ongoing maintenance of a world class Food Safety and Quality culture across the company.
    • Ensure that Food Safety and Quality Assurance metrics are incorporated in all corporate plans.
    • Develop and direct internal audit programs.
    • Organize corrective action preventive action (CAPA) programs.

    • Coordinate internal sampling programs, relationships with external laboratories, interpretation/tracking of lab results, and implement corrective actions if/when required.
  • Partner with Engineering team to optimize design for cleanability & sanitization.
    • Sign off on equipment and process designs and validation documents (IQ, OQ and PQ).
  • Effectively manage FS&QA and Sanitation costs and budget forecasts.
  • Provide direction to all farm personnel (both FSQA and others) in providing a safe work environment.
    • Develop, implement, train to and monitor employee safety protocols; develop / track metrics.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience leading Food Safety, Regulatory and Quality organizations in the Food Industry.
  • Experienced in providing leadership to distributed teams of FSQA professionals.
  • Possess all food safety certifications required by USDA, FDA, FSMA and GFSI.
  • Extensive knowledge of Food Safety and Quality systems, including:
    • Food Hygiene, HACCP, Food Safety Plans, Sanitation and GMP.
    • FDA, USDA requirements for growing and packaging leafy greens is a plus.
    • Internal auditing, external audits, and mock recalls.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across all company teams to effectively achieve required outcomes.

Job Description

We’re looking for a talented Engineer to work our Research & Development Department in our new state-of-the-art facility in Newark, NJ to serve the NY Metro Area. You should be a motivated and passionate technically minded individual with sound engineering philosophies and desire to make change in the field of agriculture. This position will be responsible for aspects of research and development surrounding the integration of systems to improve plant growth and sustainability. You will report to an experienced Biological Engineer and help with the development of exciting projects integrating state-of-the-art technology with a focus on the biological processes that makes plants grow.

In this role, you will help provide support and for a talented team of scientists and engineers and work cross-functionally to ensure success of long-range goals and strategies. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate expertise in applied science and leadership in data analysis and integration efforts.  He/she will be an energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high standards and good judgment. Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced and talented plant scientist to provide scientific direction and leadership for research projects involving flowering fruits and vegetables. The position is part of our Research & Development Department in our new state-of-the-art facility in Newark, NJ. This position will be responsible for all aspects of research and will be responsible for managing work of a lab assistant. You will be held accountable for optimizing growth of new plant varieties and for developing processes to germinate, pollinate and harvest at scale.

In this role, you will join a talented team of scientists and will work cross-functionally to ensure success of long-range goals and strategies. You should have a strong background in high throughput growing, horticulture, plant sciences or plant physiology.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate expertise in applied science and leadership in data analysis and integration efforts.  He/she will be an energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high standards and good judgment. Responsibilities

  • Develops, executes and analyzes experiments to optimize yield of flowering fruit and vegetable plants
  • Defines method for screening new varieties, including standardizing procedures and reports

  • 10 years’ experience researching plants grown in Controlled Environment Agriculture
  • Experience working with Priva environmental control systems
  • Experience setting up $250K+ in test lab equipment to analyze chemical content of plant tissue and nutrient
  • Experience with objective measurements of taste and texture of fruits.
  • Thorough knowledge of plant growing, disease prevention, and pest remediation, especially IPM principles
  • Experience growing baby greens, micro greens, living lettuces and herbs.
  • Experience with scheduling planting and harvesting to meet customer demand.
  • Experience with food safety and HACCP protocols
  • Experience managing lab technicians / growers in a greenhouse
  • Several years’ experience with statistical analysis software
