WATCH  | Inside an old laser-tag arena in Newark, New Jersey, is the future of farming. AeroFarms is an indoor vertical farm that uses no sunlight, no soil, and very little water.

The company claims to use a state-of-the-art aeroponic mist that delivers an efficient combination of nutrients and water — 95 percent less water than a typical field crop would require.

AeroFarms also developed LED lights that provide precise light wavelengths to improve plant growth.

AeroFarms reduces its carbon footprint by creating these farms in the cities it serves. In the process, it’s bringing fresh produce to “food deserts,” urban areas where it can be difficult to buy affordable or quality fresh food.

According to its YouTube channel, the company “plans to build multiple farms in major cities in both the United States and around the world, helping to address a truly global concern over how to grow safe, healthy food locally and at scale.”
